Acting IGP Egbetokun appoints CP Tunji Disu, PSO to IGP

The Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police Tunji Disu, the former Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), as his Principal Staff Officer. A police signal has confirmed that the appointment is effective immediately.

CP Disu holds a degree in English Education from Lagos State University (LASU) and was born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos Island, Lagos State.

He possesses two master’s degrees: one in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.

Having joined the police force on May 18, 1992, CP Disu has undergone various professional courses both locally and internationally. These include training in Small Arms Smuggling in Botswana, Internet Fraud at Cambridge University in the UK, Strategic Leadership Command at the Police Staff College in Jos, and Forensic Investigations and Criminal Intelligence at the University of Lagos, among others.

CP Disu was appointed as the Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on August 2, 2021, by former IGP Usman Alkali Baba, following the suspension of DCP Abba Kyari. Prior to this, he served as the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State, where he led successful operations leading to the arrest of numerous criminals, particularly fraudsters.

He has also held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Additionally, he served as the second in command at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Rivers State.

CP Disu’s notable achievements include commanding the Nigeria Police Contingent to the African Union (AU) Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.
