Abia govt set to hold one-week foreign humanitarian medical surgeries

Abia State Government (ABSG) has concluded plans to hold a free one-week foreign humanitarian medical surgery to Abians starting from the 4th week of January, 2024.

The Chief of Staff, CoS to the Governor of Abia state, Pastor Caleb Ajagba in a statement he issued said the surgery is in partnership with the Federal Medical Centre, FMC Umuahia.

According to the CoS, “The medical conditions to be treated during this period are Hernia repairs and Surgery for Hydroceles, Fibroma and Caesarean operations to Abians and those residing in Abia state” at the  Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

Ajagba urged citizens, “Kindly pass this information to Abians that have need for above medical services so that they can take advantage of the free medical services during this period”, stating that the state government will assist the patients with transport money to and from the venue.

“We are encouraged to assist those we can with transportation/ logistics to ease their movement to and from FMC,” he assured.

A confirmed government information said that a Belgium foreign medical team will be handling the surgery that is free.

According to the Medical Director Federal Medical Centre, FMC Umuahia Prof. Onyebuchi Azubuike who confirmed the arrangement, the FMC Umuahia is ready for the collaboration.
