2023: Delta APC chieftain, Aristotle, joins governorship race

Published by

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Delta State, a governorship aspirant, Amb. Micheal Aristotle Ighofose has indicated interest to succeed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa come 2023.

The two-time governorship candidate of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) is a popular chieftain of APC from Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

Ighofosen, in a statement by his Special Assistant, Mr Mike Eyamekuare, said he has succumbed to pressure from friends and political associates in Delta State, Nigeria and abroad to join the governorship race for 2023.

“Amb. Chief Micheal Ighofose has accepted and indicated interest to contest the governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, but he is still consulting with relevant leaders and stakeholders before his official declaration.

‘Amb. Michael Ighofose is very familiar with and understands the politics in Delta State. He has contested the governorship election in Delta state twice as the governorship candidate of the then ANPP, at the time President Muhammadu Buhari was then Presidential candidate of ANPP.

“More so, then, Ighofose facilitated the conferment of Traditional Chieftaincy title “OWHORODE” on President Muhammadu Buhari by His Royal Majesty, Oharisi III, Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom.

“Amb. Ighofose also facilitated the visit by President Muhammadu Buhari to the palace of Orodje of Okpe.

“So, Ighofose is popular, understands the game, qualified and competent to govern Delta state,” the statement read in part.

The aspirant has joined a few others who’ll be slugging the APC governorship primaries out with Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, who’s billed to formally declare his intention by Thursday, tomorrow April 14 at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun-Warri, Delta State.
