The governor further said that to achieve this, the orientation programme was carefully fashioned to bring them in close contact with their fellow compatriots from different parts of the country and expose them to the culture and traditions of their host communities of service.
This, he said would strengthen and boost their innate sense of patriotism which would translate to higher quality future leadership that would place Nigeria on a higher pedestal among the comity of nations.
He also assured the management of the scheme that the ongoing repairs, reconstruction and rehabilitation of camp structures and facilities that were destroyed by rain storm would be completed before the conclusion of the orientation course in order to create a perfect enabling atmosphere for the success of the programme.
Earlier, the director-general of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Fadah, reminded the corps members that the oath of allegiance taken was significant, as it is expected to guide their conduct in the service year as well as have an everlasting influence on their lives after service.
Represented by the state coordinator of the scheme, Alhaji Namadi Abubakar, the DG enjoined them all to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws.
According to the DG, “I implore you to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far, especially by remaining compliant with the camp rules and regulations.”
He added that, “You must continue to distance yourselves from cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
“I also urge you to avoid using social media for spreading fake news, fueling hatred and other negative purposes, and instead deploy the same for the promotion of national unity and development,” he said.
