Over 1,000 people drawn from agrarian communities in Ikire, Osun State, recently benefitted from the free medical and healthcare outreach organised by Ibrahim Oyekunle Foundation.
Founder of the foundation, Mr Ibrahim Oyekunle, in an interview with newsmen said the foundation was established to give back to the society.
“The foundation is barely a year old and we, the team, have a work plan which is going to touch healthcare of our people, education intervention scheme that will include the indigent students, empowerment of farmers by assisting them with seedlings and ways to improve their outputs, and also assisting artisans who are financially incapacitated,” he said.
Oyekunle added that during the first wave of COVID-19, the foundation made donations to the community to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
The Osolo of Ikireland, Chief C.O Akinbile, speaking at the event, said the move to establish the foundation was borne out of the love that Oyekunle has for his people.
“I must confess, his mission and vision statements drew my attention to his foundation and I am pleased that I wasn’t in any way disappointed with programmes he has been putting in place. I pray that God continues to strengthen him,” he said.
A beneficiary and also a chief of the community, Alhaji Akinade Ademola, the Omolasun of Ikire, kicked against insinuations that the programme is politically-motivated, as he charged others to emulate Oyekunle by doing more for the development of Ikire and Irewole Local Government Area at large.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Bolanle Oyekunle, applauded the foundation, saying that it had been a pillar of support for many people in the community.
One of the doctors who participated in the programme, Dr Iyabo Abass, affirmed that standard medical procedures are observed during the outreach with sufficient drugs for distribution.
