The Zamfara State chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Sani Haliru Kurya has said that the recent abduction of Jangebe school girls has slowed the union negotiation process with the state government over new minimum wage and affirmed the negotiation is still on.
Addressing newsmen on Wednesday at the state NLC secretariat in Gusau, shortly after a peaceful rally over a bill on states minimum wage, comrade Kurya assured workers that the issue of the minimum wage is still alive in the state.
The chairman explained that if not because of the recent kidnapped of Jangebe school girls that touched every heart in the state, the negotiating team with the state government would have reached a reasonable stage on minimum wage.
According to him, the issue of the peaceful rally was a directive from the national secretariat of NLC that has to be complied with by all states branches across the nation.
The rally which started in the state around 9 am has in attendance all the union leaders both NLC and TUC who took to the street and headed to the state House of Assembly complex in Gusau.
In their separate speeches during the protest rally, the Zamfara State chairmen of NLC and TUC said the rally was to show their displeasure on the proposed bill that was before the National Assembly on minimum wage.
