Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) have given a nod to Zamfara State Government’s decision to build vehicle transit parks as a component of the ongoing Urban Renewal Project.

“I have directed the construction of trailer parks at two entrances to Gusau: one on the Funtua-Gusau road and the other on the Sokoto-Gusau road,” Governor Dauda Lawal said on Tuesday when he played host to the unions at the Government House.

A statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, explained that the Governor invited the unions to join membership of the committee set up for the vehicle transit areas and also held discussions on traffic management in Gusau, the state capital.

The statement further noted that the initiative is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion and also as part of the urban renewal project as well as enhance the quality of road infrastructure in the state capital.

According to the Governor, “We will conduct a thorough assessment of potential locations to determine the most suitable spots for the trailer park construction.

“We will also take into consideration factors such as accessibility, demand and available resources to ensure that the parks not only generate revenue for the state government but also provide valuable and enjoyable experience for visitors.”

In his remarks, the Zamfara State NARTO Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Musa, who is also Sarkin Kagara, assured the Governor of the willingness of his members to comply with the initiative.

He said, “We will ensure that the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners and Petroleum Tanker Drivers supports the government in establishing the proposed trailer parks.

“We are honoured with this invitation to discuss this critical matter regarding our work.

“We will comply and give maximum cooperation to ensure that vehicle transit areas or trailer parks are established.

“This project will create over 5000 job opportunities for the people of Zamfara.
