2023 Elections

You’ve done well, NANS tells INEC, Buhari

Published by

The National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) for the “peaceful conduct” of the just-concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in the country.

It also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for giving space for a credible electoral process without undue interference even as it congratulated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress(APC) on winning the presidential election.

The association gave the commendations in a statement made available by its National Public Relations Officer, Mr Temitope Giwa, on Wednesday.

According to NANS, the resolve of the President not to interfere in the activities of INEC has once again strengthened free choice by Nigerians to choose their leaders which is one of the major components of democracy.

“So, as a country that practices constitutional democracy, the president has set a good precedent in further giving independence to the electoral umpire.”

NANS said, “As a students’ body, we believe in the capacity of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to ensure a turnaround and make education more accessible and affordable to all Nigerians.”

The association, however, called for calm across the country, noting that it is only in the atmosphere that meaningful development can take place.
