You should build a personal website. Here’s why…

Have you ever imagined what it feels like to have a house, and in the house, you have a corner to yourself –  a place you don’t have to pretend, somewhere you can call the shots? That’s what having a personal website is like or feels like in this day and age.

A platform where you can be yourself and show the world what you have done can do, and will do. It’s where you can show people near or miles away your talents, achievements, and creative ideas.

It can change the order of things for you in ways you can never imagine. Why should you have one, and what difference can it make in your life?

1. Career and personal brand elevation

A personal website will help you sell your skills and capabilities to people who matter to your career growth. It can connect you to them and forge long-lasting relationships for both parties, yielding returns for a long time.

See it as your resume, but it’s online. You can show off your skills and things you’ve done over time because it’ll build a good reputation that no one can sideline. It’ll be easier to find jobs or potential employers or clients when they can see what you can do firsthand before connecting with you.

It could also make collaboration easy.

2. Makes you unique

It’s a digital age, and everywhere on the internet seems saturated across social media platforms and platforms alike. However, having a website tailored to you and your brand gets you noticed faster.

The truth is that everyone wants to get noticed, whether they are good at their craft or not. You who own a personal website will find it hard to forget compared to someone bound by the confines of social media.

3. You sell yourself

Everyone has a unique side, and you can creatively sell that side of you to others through your website.

Just like you can make anything out of a blank canvas, you can design your website however you like. You are also free to make your personality known in whatever way suits you or your preferences.

4. You call the shots

You decide what goes on in there or what doesn’t. You decide what stays and doesn’t. Your work gets showcased however you want it to be. Unlike social media, there are no imposed ads and no rigid rules.

5. Accessibility

People will find you on your website without stress. It will also make opportunities easily accessible to you. From these opportunities, you could find job offers, scholarships, collaborations, freelance jobs, etc.

Above all, aesthetics are important. However, remember that functionality also is important, and it’s never too late to start.
