An 8cm live worm-like organism was found in the brain of a 64-year-old Australian woman.
The woman had experienced various symptoms like stomach pains, forgetfulness and depression for months before surgeons in an Australian hospital extracted the worm.
Experts say the red parasite could have been alive in her brain for more than two months.
This case proves to be a first in the medical books as medical experts believe her case to be the first instance of a larvae invasion and development in the human brain.
According to BBC, She was admitted to the hospital in late January 2021, and a scan later revealed “an atypical lesion within the right frontal lobe of the brain”.
The cause of her suffering was discovered during a biopsy executed by Dr. Bandi.
Researchers warn the case highlights the increased danger of diseases and infections being passed from animals to people.
