Workshop: Edo varsity VC tasks academic staff on knowledge impartation

The academic staff of the Edo State University, Uzairue, has been tasked on the need to impart on the students the knowledge gained during the recent three-day regular capacity building workshop organised for the academic and technologist staff of the university.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Emmanuel Aluyor, gave the advice at the end of the workshop tagged ‘Staff development programme on research proposal writing, grants management and academic leadership.’

Aluyor, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin), Professor Obioma Anthony Nwaopara, said the academic staff of the university are expected to implement the outcome of the workshop on the students.

He added that the participating staff are also expected to use the training to improve themselves in the area of efficiency

He disclosed that the workshop is an annual programme of the university, adding the management of the institution is satisfied with the aims and objectives of this year’s workshop.

In his presentation, Professor Kevin Shegun Otoikhian, whose paper was entitled ‘Use and maintenance of the university facilities’, asserted that a well-administered preventative maintenance programme can help to reduce accidents, save lives, minimised costly breakdown and unplanned shutdowns equipment.

Otoikhian cautioned the people to always switch off all electrical appliances at the end of the day’s work, adding that it is wrong to open doors and windows while air conditioners are on.

He advised that precautionary maintenance should be apply and checking for strange noise while moving mechanical equipment.

Professor  M. Maliki, said the reason for external research grants is to help diversify income sources as well as to improve economic and social growth.

She said effective external research grants strategy is a pre-requisite for winning external research grants, noting that compiled external research grants strategy is the information hub, known as research grants toolkits and sometimes regarded as the ‘holy books’.

On her part, Dr. Adejoke Elizabeth Memudu, spoke on the effective project grant management and budgeting (post-award), while Dr. Simon Ejokema Imoisi delivered his paper entitled: Strategies for global ranking and competitiveness.
