HOUSE of Assembly candidate for Ogun State chapter of Action Democratic Party (ADP) for Abeokuta North Local Government, Mr Taofeek Ogunjimi, said his focus if voted into office would be the pursuit of empowerment of women and farmers, among others, declaring that women and farmers remained key to successful economic growth, political stability and social transformation in any country.
Ogunjimi, who is a successful banker and farmer, made this promise while addressing people of his constituency at a rally in Abeokuta, saying ADP government once it came into place in the state was ready to draw out different schemes in assisting both women and farmers in their ventures.
According to the ADP candidate, there is no doubt that women, in this 21st Century, are powerful and key to successful economic growth, political stability and social transformation, but lamented that the reverse was the case in Nigeria where they were subjugated and seen as mere sex object, with the wrong notion that men were to be more successful than them.
“Our women are hardworking, they are ready to drive our country to its promise land if empowered. ADP government is majorly for all, men, women, youths and adults but we all need to empower our women to increase the growth of our nation’s economy.
“If voted in, through my legislative power in Abeokuta North Local Government, I will dwell into women empowerment scheme to assist women in our local government in securing our women’s dreams and their children own. ADP government is ready to draw out different schemes in assisting our women in their various areas of concentration.

ADP government is ready to relate with our women at the grassroots level, understand them, know their needs and offer those to them,” Ogunjimi said.
On farmers, the ADP candidate, while acknowledging problems being encountered by them in the country, however, said they remained the only salvation to the present day economy of Nigeria, declaring: “If farmers are not empowered by the government, the economy of this country will remain static.”
“I am a farmer irrespective of my experience in banking, I know the advantages and the problems encountered by farmers. I must acknowledge the fact that farmers are the only salvation to the present day economy of Nigeria. If farmers are not empowered by the government, the economy of this country remain static,” he said.
Speaking further, the ADP candidate recalled that in long time past when the country’s currency was equivalent of the American dollars, agriculture then was the major revenue earner, but lamented that deviation from agriculture had caused a major setback in Nigeria’s economy.
“I could remember when a naira was equal to a dollar, Nigeria then majored in Agriculture but our deviation from agriculture has caused a major setback in our economy,” he said, promising to work with his fellow farmers in Abeokuta North in building a thriving agricultural sector in the local government.
“As an aspiring honourable in Abeokuta North, I am ready to work with my fellow farmers in Abeokuta North in building our agricultural sector in this local government.
“Our local government land is fertile enough to cultivate but the major problem is finance and equipment. ADP government is ready to provide total support needed by farmers and as a representative of Abeokuta North, I will ensure that our local government farmers enjoyed all this everlasting opportunity from ADP government,” Ogunjimi said.
“We all want a government that connects to its people at its grassroots, ADP government and myself are ready to collaborate with our people at the grassroots to achieve good governance. Once the farmers are equipped, we will all enjoy the fruits of their labour,” he added.
