Wife’s petition to AGF, IGP over alleged unlawful detention of husband misleading —Delta group

Published by

A petition to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman, over an alleged unlawful detention of one Mr. Sunday Okoro by his wife, Rose, has been described as baseless and misleading.

Mrs. Okoro had alleged recently in national dailies that her husband was arrested in Sapele on September 9, 2020 by plain-clothe policemen following alleged complaints of threats to life by one Sunny Nwankego.

But a youth group, Oromu ro ‘Okpe, on Tuesday, has raised the alarm over the petition, describing it as not only baseless but an attempt to mislead security operatives and court from dispensing justice for the oppressed people of Sapele-Okpe, Delta State.

The group, in a statement signed by the coordinator, Comrade Akpojeme Dennis and spokesperson, Comrade Dave Ochuko, said the suspect, Mr Okoro, was arrested for alleged criminal activities.

The youth, who also listed two other petitions detailing the misdemeanors of Mr Okoro which included alleged kidnap and murder of some persons in 2019 and 2020, said the attempt by Mrs Okoro to rewrite the narrative was unacceptable.

“As youths, who are more concerned with the peace of our town, the said Mr Okoro alongside his co-hort were arrested and had made confessional statements to the police with evidence and they have been arraigned before court on the ground of the aforementioned offences.

“It is also not true that Mr Okoro is unlawfully being detained by the police, because the last time we checked, he is being remanded in a correctional centre, awaiting his day in court,” the youths added.

The group warned that the town had been enjoying a relative peace since Mr Okoro was apprehended, appealing to all and sundry to let the law takes its course.

Meanwhile, acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, when contacted, said he wasn’t aware of the arrest of Mr Okoro since the operation was ordered from above.
