Why we’re we doing a movie on Hushpuppi —Mo Abudu

Published by

Based on a recent article entitled ‘The Fall of the Billionaire Gucci Master” by Evan Ratliff on Bloomberg, EbonyLife Studios will be partnering with Will Packer Productions to produce a movie that will tell the story of famous Nigerian Instagram celebrity, Abbas Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi, who is currently facing criminal charges in the United States for financial fraud.

Nigerian media mogul and founder of EbonyLife TV, Mosunmola Abudu, popularly known as Mo Abudu, made the announcement via her social media page recently as she expressed her excitement over the rights secured by her company to produce the ‘Huspuppi’ movie.

According to her, to ensure that the story is told with authenticity, it was necessary for a Nigerian storyteller of “her” pedigree to be involved in telling the Huspuppi’s story, because “If we do not tell the story, someone else will.”

Speaking further on why they chose a story like this, she said: “there are many lessons to be learnt from good and bad stories. Too often, these types of characters are one-dimensional and fit into the worst stereotypes.

“Hushpuppi’s story is based on a real person, whose story is already partly known to the world, but the film gives us a real chance to tell a cautionary tale about a character formed by his environment and life choices,” she added.

Hushpuppi was arrested by the Dubai Police in June 2020 and was extradited to the United States for charges of conspiracy to launder money obtained from business email compromise frauds and other scams.
