The Chief Executive Officer of OGR-Empire, Sanni Muideen Olakunle has explained why he picked the 1st of October 2021 for his Traditional Dress Riot in Ibadan.
While fielding questions from journalists, the businessman hinted that the event which is the first of its kind in the City of Firsts is targeted as a two-in-one event: to celebrate Nigeria’s 61st independence and our fashion culture.
Sanni, who is the convener of the Ibadan Drive-In Music Carnival and Hibernation Night explained that the Traditional Dress Riot is set towards reminding the youth about our culture in terms of dressing, food and language.
‘The event is targeted at the youth. If you follow the trend, you would notice that if care is not taken, our culture would go into extinction, and we don’t want this to happen. We are so deep into western things, their food, their language and their mode of dressing. This is why we are having the traditional dress riot and it’s not limited to the Yoruba alone. We want the Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, Ijaw, Itsekiri and all to garb their traditional attires and we would not allow anyone in English wear to partake in the event. We want to celebrate our culture on our Independence Day,’ he said.
The Ibadan Traditional Dress Riot which holds on the 1st of October, 2021 at the Manhattan Hall, Jericho Ibadan is lined with comedy, cultural dance, fashion show and many other activities to mark the independence anniversary.
The organisers whose aim is to stage the biggest annual concert in Ibadan promised it would be fun and worth the mention for the nation’s Independence Day ceremony.
