Why I can’t contest against Tinubu in 2027 — Wike

Published by

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained why he has ruled out any presidential ambition in 2027, firmly stating that he has no plans to contest against President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview with BBC News Pidgin published over the weekend, Wike dismissed speculations surrounding him contesting against the current administration, emphasising his unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu.

“I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” Wike stated.

He further stressed his position, saying, “I will not contest again. I cannot contest against someone I am working with. Who will win except him?”

Tribune Online recalls that recently, Wike made a notable appearance at the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja— a move that drew attention given his leading role in the G5 group and ongoing collaboration with the APC-led federal government.

His attendance at the high-level PDP meeting, despite lingering tensions and questions about his allegiance, has sparked speculation about a possible political shift or realignment.
