What is that mystery you would like to see solved before you die?

Published by

Mysteries are a part of our world, it’s intertwined in the fabric of our existence. This week on WhatsApp Conversation, we are delving into the deep world of mysteries and which particular ones you would love to see a solution to while you are here.

Tosin Awoniyi

Mysteries are difficult or impossible to understand or explain. A mystery that I would like to see solved before I die is the mystery of how human beings are formed and how people came to existence. How human beings are formed and how people came into existence is a mystery that has been grey to me since my childhood days and up till now, I can say categorically that I can’t still fathom It out.

I do hear It right from my childhood days that “human beings are unique among life on this planet” and this statement “human beings are unique among life on this planet” has remained a mystery as to how we evolved. What steps came first? Why did we evolve this way and not in another direction? Why are we the only human species left? What other paths might we have gone down in our evolution? and what directions might we go from here? Why do human beings walk on two legs? and finally, why do we grow hair?.

All the aforementioned are mysteries pertaining to human existence and I would like them solved before I die.

One theory I would absolutely love to see solved is that of Antimatter. Imagine yourself in opposite land, where black is white, up is down and matter is antimatter?

It sounds crazy, but the sub-atomic particles that make up everything around us – electrons, protons, and neutrons – all have evil twins. Antimatter particles are the same mass as normal particles but have the opposite electric charge.

And because of this, antimatter wipes out the normal matter on contact. Poof! Both are destroyed in an instant. So antimatter has the potential to destroy us and everything we love, at least in theory.

The theory of antimatter is so worrisome because, at least if we are going to get destroyed by something, we had better know what it will be.

The absolute cure for cancer. As much as this might be cliche, the cure for cancer is so desperately wanted for a reason. Personally, I’ve lost a family member to it and two of my family members currently have it; it’s so widespread and devastating. Just about everyone knows someone affected by cancer, finding a cure would benefit so many people.

And no, I am not talking of managing the disease. I am hopeful for a scientific advancement that will put paid to the dreadful conditions.

Onome Iyene

The secret to immortality, ideally. A lot of millions have been poured into the research, I am hoping this mystery will be solved eventually but much more, I am hoping it will be solved before I die.

Mukthar Abdulwasiu

Not exactly scientific but it’s been almost one year and nobody knows the specifics of what exactly happened that night at the Lekki toll gates. The people present there have a different account, the soldiers and authorities that deployed them have an entirely different story. Will there ever be a common line touted? Will there ever be justice for those whose lives were taken?

Now, those are the questions that haunt me.

Tomisin Salami

As a scientist, this is an interesting one. A list will come in handy;

– A solution to the question ‘where do we go when we die?’ in concrete, provable ways.

– I will like to be proven right or wrong if the soul is simply energy that is lost in death or if it is an actual part of the human.

– I will like to see the unification of forces; more like the coming together of all Einstein’s theories.

– I will like to see if humans can build a vessel that can go faster than light.

I would be to know whether immortals are walking this earth right now.

Or if there could be a child that is so unconditioned by the society and as such Is capable of pure good?

Agboola Owoseni

One mystery I look forward to the solution is the black hole theory.  Is it just on paper? Are they the resolutions of some scientific calculations or is the black hole really out there somewhere waiting to be found?

Black holes are regions of space in which the force of gravity is so powerful that everything around is drawn in. Not even light can escape, which is why we can’t see any of this going on.

Experts think there could be up to 100 million black holes in our galaxy alone, and these monsters can grow to become billions of times more massive than the sun. What’s more, at the center of most galaxies, including our own, lurks a supermassive black hole.

But we don’t know what happens when objects pass through the center. They might become ‘spaghettified’: stretched apart into long strings of matter; they could even be transported through a shortcut to a different part of our universe. Spooky.

Next week, we treat a serious question. “Do you agree that corp members should be drafted into the army?” To be part of the next edition, send your response to 08136601345 via WhatsApp or SMS.
