What are stretching exercises?

Kindly let me know the benefit of stretching exercises and if I can still do these at my elderly age of 50 years.

Stretching is a simple and safe way to help prevent life-changing falls that can threaten your independence. It’s helpful to include stretching in your exercise plan.

Stretching can increase flexibility and improve the range of motion in your joints. Being more flexible can help you move more freely and be better able do daily activities. For years, people assumed stretching was something only athletes needed to do before exercising or competing.

But the reality is that doing simple stretches just two or three times a week can dramatically help anyone increase flexibility, improve balance, and relieve the pain caused by muscle and joint stiffness. Stretching is especially good for the elderly because it increases their mobility and reduces their penchant for falls.
