We will follow Awolowo’s template to develop Oyo ― Makinde

Published by

The Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday said his administration would follow the template of the former Premier of Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo to ensure socio-economic and infrastructural development of the state.

He assured that necessary incentives and enabling environment would be created for farmers in the state as part of measures to boost agriculture and food productivity.

Commissioning the rehabilitated Ilaju Garri Processing Factory in Ido Location Government Area of Oyo State, Makinde saluted the foresight of Awolowo over the establishment of the processing factory in 1972, noting that the abandonment of the factory by past administrations was appalling.

According to him, “Awolowo is the architect of the Western Region and this is part of his legacies. Our government will continue to follow his indelible footprints to develop Oyo State. This template includes agriculture, infrastructures, social welfare, health, industry and commerce.”

“When the Ido (Ibadan) Cooperative Farming and Produce Marketing Society Limited came to me requesting for the resuscitation of Ilaju Garri Processing Factory, I promised to refurbish it. Today, I will present a cheque of N7.5 million so that production can commence at the factory.”

“We will continue to revamp all abandoned assets belonging to the state. Besides, we will not relent in providing a good road network so that farmers can move their products freely from rural to urban centres. The road to Eruwa has been included in our RAMP projects. It will be reconstructed.”

“I want to assure our traditional rulers present here in Ido Local Government that Apete-Awotan-Akufo-Moniya-Iseyin roads would be rehabilitated to aid socio-economic growth create value chain effects, “Makinde remarked.

In his address, the chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo posited that Makinde’s decision to “resuscitate the moribund Ilaju Garri Processing Factory, which was established decades ago by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo is highly commendable” adding that “this will go a long way to reduce unemployment and ensure food security.”
