We will continue to address health challenges of our people ― Ondo govt

Published by

The Ondo State government has promised to address the health needs of the people of the disadvantaged area of the coastal community in the state.

A Director of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr Bobola Babatola, stated this during the medical tour to ongoing Mother and Child Hospital being built in the oil-rich Ode Ugbo in Ilaje council area of the state.

The new mother and child hospital which worth millions of naira is being facilitated by the Amalgamation of Ilaje Ugbo Coastal Communities Association (AMAICOMMA) and Ilaje Regional Development Committee (IRDC) and financed by Chevron Nigeria Limited

Babatola commended the stakeholders for their initiative on the project saying the community-driven project will go a long way in tackling health problems in the locality.

According to him, the hospital will help to put an end to the frequent death of the people in the area in the course of transit to receive medical treatment in Ondo and Akure towns.

He assured that accessing health-care services in the hospital when completed would be highly affordable, saying that its workforce would also benefit indigenes of the area.

Babatola noted that “such initiative is required by individuals, groups, and corporate bodies to boost healthcare delivery across the state.”

Babatola who led the medical team to the construction site of the health facility said the project is over 75 per cent completed “and the facility would help to address health needs of the people, especially in that local government area.”

He disclosed that the needed adjustments had been identified, and suggestions made to the contractors but “our focus is to ensure a standard that is acceptable anywhere, and we are pushing in that direction” and described the initiative as “uncommon.”

The facility, initiated by the duo of Amalgamation of Ilaje Ugbo Coastal Communities Association (AMAICOMMA) and Ilaje Regional Development Committee (IRDC), is being financed by Chevron Nigeria Limited.

Representatives of the AMAICOMMA, IRDC, Mr Taiwo Orisabinone, commended the contractor handling the project.

It will be recalled that the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who performed the groundbreaking of the hospital in 2019 assured the people of the state that his administration would always be ready to partner with groups and associations that share a similar concern to achieve a healthier state.

The health facility is a joint project of the Ilaje Regional Development Initiative Committee (IRDC) and Amalgamation of Ilaje Ugbo Coastal Communities Association (AMAICOMMA), with support from Chevron Nigeria Limited.
