The 80-year -old owner of the cows seized by men of the Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun, at Ero town in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, Dauji Ibrahim, on Wednesday said he was migrating from Osun state to Kogi state with his cows and never planned to invade any farmland.

Ibrahim who explained that he was travelling with his son when his cows strayed into a farm in the Ero community and the highway said he was scared when the Amotekun officials came to the scene of the incident and had to run away.

The octogenarian who claimed to hail from Plateau said he lives in Kogi state, but always migrate from Kogi to Osun state every dry season and when the rains start, they will return back home in Kogi.

He, however, said he decided to take a rest in Ero when the incident happened to say “my boy and I tried to take some rest at the early hours of the day while on our way from Osun State.

”But a lady came out and was really nagging at us. So, the cows got out of the compound and moved to the express road.

”Before I knew what was happening, we saw the vehicle of the Security Agency arrived.

”My boy, who is younger and smarter took to his heels but there was nothing a man of my age could do. I tried to hide somewhere, but I was later caught and brought to the headquarter.”

However, a middle-aged woman, Mrs Aishat Ali, informed Nigerian Tribune that the same set of herders usually come to the community every year to destroy their farms.

She alleged Ibrahim and other herders of bringing their cows to cause mass destruction on their farms in the community.

According to her, ”when their cows destroyed our farms last year, they promised to pay us but didn’t fulfil their promise

” a Few days ago, they came back with their cows and I had to call on the Amotekun officials who got them arrested. But now we have resolved everything and they have compensated us.

The Ondo state Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, said the farm owner and the herder have resolved peacefully saying they have reached compromise.

“We have ensured that the farmer make peace with the herder and the arrested herder and his cows will be released when appropriate documentation is made. I urge people of the state to keep us abreast of any distress situation.”
