The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), on Thursday, stated that it has been empowered to produce and supply Stamps for the purpose of authenticating receipts and other documents under the provisions of the new Finance Act 2020 amended, adding that it consequently has the power to legitimise any instrument with the value of a thousand naira and above.
The Zonal Manager of NIPOST, Mrs O.O. OGUNLANA made the announcement in Ibadan during the second edition of the Ibadan zone customers’ forum which held at the Ibadan zonal headquarters, Dugbe, adding that “the Act expressly states that receipts with a face value of one thousand naira (N1000) and above are to be denoted with stamps of at least fifty naira (N50) only.
She further expressed NIPOST’s concern about the continuous decline in the letter-writing culture and what NIPOST as an organisation is doing to curb the trend.
“As a responsive corporate entity that is sensitive to happenings in its operational milieu, NIPOST Ibadan Zone is gravely concerned with the declining culture of letter writing among young people and is coming up with a Zonal Letter Writing competition in collaboration with South-Western States Ministries’ of Education to ensure this ugly trend is mitigated.
“I gladly announce that as part of our contribution towards stopping the nose-diving letter-writing culture nationwide, NIPOST provides a platform for Nigerian Secondary School Students to compete with their counterparts across the globe at the UPU Letter Writing Competition. And it is my pleasure to present Miss Abduljabar Shakirah Omosalewa of Islamic College Osogbo whose superlative performance at the 2021 edition today makes Ibadan Zone stand tall in the comity of zones as she emerged as the second-best student throughout the federation.
Speaking on the 2021Customers’ Forum which is the second edition since the take-off of the zonal arrangement, she stated that the business world has always acknowledged customers as kings as they have a pivotal role in determining the relevance, growth, and continued existence of any enterprise and as a result, it is incumbent on every forward-looking organisation to spares no effort at ensuring it delivers efficient and satisfactory service to its customers at all times.
According to her, NIPOST is conscious of the fact that customers are its strength and greatest assets, reiterating that “we also recognise the fact that as high-level stakeholders, you deserve quality service delivery. To this end, we, therefore, engage in periodic self reassessment and operational reviews that would guarantee value-added services capable of satisfying your needs and aspirations.
“We are not unmindful of the many instances where we performed below your expectation contrary to agreed terms. No excuse is however tenable for our poor service delivery at those instances. However, I assure you that NIPOST management is currently redesigning, rearranging, and rejigging our mail routing systems. At the same time, deliberations on how to enhance the movement of our out-bound items are at the final stages with airliners.
“May I at this juncture, profusely plead for the incontinences our constant disappointing performance may have caused you; your loyalty over the years, our intermittent service failures notwithstanding, makes us see you no more as customers but as partners. And as partners who are committed to our continuous existence, I, however, crave your understanding as I use this medium to inform you that the Federal Government has approved an increment in our domestic rate from fifty naira (N50) only to two hundred and fifty naira (N250) only,” she said.
Ogunlana however stated that it is obvious to everyone that the minimum rate of N50 for delivery to any part of the country irrespective of the distance is no longer sustainable going by current economic realities, assuring that the zone has opportunities in abundance that customers can leverage on to launch into greater prosperity.
She reiterated NIPOST’s undying gratitude to customers for their loyalty and continued patronage, emphasising that NIPOST no longer sees them as mere customers but as worthy partners on the journey to posting the post into greater prosperity.
