Warri North staff groan over delay in April salary payment

Published by

Ten days into the month of May, staff of Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State have expressed disappointment over the delay in the payment of their April salary.

Some of the staff, who spoke on the issue, noted that the delay had caused financial constraints for them.

It was gathered that the delay was a result of the conflict of interest between the Executive and the Legislative Arms of the council over the passage of the council’s budget.

Speaking on the issue, the Head of the Information Unit of the council, Mr. Clement Asifor, revealed that no council staff in other local government areas of the state had received their April salary.

“The issue is really worrisome because they are using the situation to punish staff whose interests are not in anyway related to what ever issues they are having,” he said.

Also speaking, Mrs Lucky Isedo, who works in the Legislative Arm of the council, called on the council chairman, Honourable Smart Asekutu, to expedite action in the payment of their April salary.

As of the time of filing the report, efforts to reach the Warri North Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Moses Baradi, to comment on the issue were not successful.
