The palace of the traditional ruler of Obor Autonomous Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, HRH Eze Obi Ralph Ekezie, has been set ablaze by some persons, whose identities are yet unknown.
The unfortunate incident occurred at about 4 pm on Thursday.
The fire, according to an eyewitness, destroyed the monarchs’ property and two other buildings around his palace, worth millions of naira.
The source also said the fire was later put out by the combined efforts of good-spirited individuals in the community.
Confirming the incident, the monarch, blamed those he called enemies of progress in his community for the burning of his palace.
He said he was monitoring the development from his abode in Owerri, capital of Imo State.
He expressed sadness, saying the level of damage could not be ascertained until he got to the community.
When contacted, the Imo State police spokesman, Michael Abattam, said the command was not aware of such an incident.
