The Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan(UI), Prof. Adebola Ekanola has been conferred with the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) Fellowship.
He is admitted to become a fellow of this prestigous academy alongside other high profile scholars at the 22nd and 23rd combined convocation and investiture ceremonies of the academy held at University of Lagos(UNILAG) Akoka on Thursday August 12.
The UI’s Director of Public Communications, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo made this disclosure in a statement on Saturday, saying Ekanola’s conferment with the fellowship is not because he is the acting VC of UI but based on his sterling academic contributions to higher education particularly in humanities and the national development.
Mr Oladejo listed other inductees at the event to include Prof Ahmed Parker Yerima, Prof Frank Maduabuchi Dukor, Prof Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi, Prof Lateef Ayeleru, Prof Isidore Okeawolam Diala, Prof Abayomi Akinyeye, Prof Andrew Haruna, Prof Imelda Icheji Lawrence Udoh, Prof Olusegun Adesina Adekoya, Prof Justice Obi Nwachukwu-Agbada, Prof Mabel Evweierhoma and Prof David Jowitt.
He added that renowned cleric and Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Dr. Matthew Kukah and Prof.Tanure Ojaide were both elected at the event as an Honorary and Overseas Fellow of the academy respectively.
He said Prof Ekanola, 52 and alumus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Professor of Philosophy and Ethics, cherished the award, seeing it as a call for greater service to humanity.
