One adult female was rescued alive and nine others feared dead as a container truck fell on a fully loaded minibus at Ojuelegba, inwards Fadeyi, Lagos State, on Sunday, 29th January.

Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu revealed that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.

Dr Olufemi added that “Upon arrival at the scene, a truck conveying a 20ft container was found to have landed on top of a commercial bus.”

He explained further that ”after suspending the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment, a single adult woman was extricated alive and taken to the trauma centre.”

“Final casualty count is nine fatalities comprising four adult males, three adult females, a boy child, a girl child and one adult female rescued alive.”

However, further investigation would be carried out by the Nigeria Police on the removal of the barriers on the bridge aimed at preventing trucks from ascending.

Meanwhile, there have been various reactions and comments to this incident, noting that the Ojuelegba Bridge incidents are becoming worrisome.

The Lagos State government has been called upon to take a stand on heavy-duty truck activities on the bridge.
