Treat cattle herders with AK-47 as armed robbers, Obiano orders police, others

Published by

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has ordered the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, Anambra Vigilant Group and the traditional rulers in all the 181 communities in the state to treat any cattle herder caught with AK-47 as an armed robber in the state.

He said the measure, if generally adopted by other governors, will help stem the security challenges currently facing the country.

Obiano gave the order at a one-day Stakeholders Security Summit organized by the Nigeria Police held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Awka on Tuesday.

He said he is giving the order because everything about the security of Ndi-Anambra was his major focus in the present government.

The governor explained that the meeting will help to restrategize on how to address the challenges of cattle herders parading the state with AK-47 rifles.

He warned traditional rulers not to allow such people in their communities.

He said: “Any Fulani herdsmen with AK-47 is not a Nigerian. Therefore should be treated as armed robbers.

“Security, been my number one agenda, I have purchased about 562 vehicles to security agencies since I came on board as governor of Anambra State in 2013,” Obiano said.

He begged security agencies, traditional rulers, youths and participants to support APGA candidate in the November 6, 2021 governorship election.

In his address, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu said the programme is aimed at mobilising all stakeholders comprising traditional leaders, clergies, community leaders, youths and the general public to proffer advice for improved participation in policing their respective communities; and enhance security consciousness especially during this challenging period across the country.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the IGP was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DIG Joseph Egbunike.
