TIN shortlists 20 participants for TheWriteUp 2021 second stage

Published by

Torchbearers Impact Network (TIN) has announced the shortlist of outstanding 20 participants in the first leg of TheWriteUp 2021, lauding the efforts put in by all contestants.

In a related development, TIN declared open the second stage of the essay contest which will see shortlisted candidates writing on a fresh topic within the space of a week.

The topic is: Is community policing a panacea for insecurity in Nigeria?

Entries open Monday, May 17th and close Friday, May 21st, 2021 at 11:59 pm.

TIN revealed that it received a total number of 55 entries for the first leg of the essay contest which was open to Nigerian students across tertiary institutions.

Also commending the efforts of the panellists, TIN said they did a thorough and painstaking job for the shortlisted candidates to emerge.

“Consequent on the approval of the board, we have concluded the first stage of the TheWriteUp 2021. We must commend the efforts of our respected panellists. They gave their all in ensuring that a number of 20 shortlisted candidates emerged in a process that’s clearly thorough and painstaking.

“In grading the entries, the panellists adopted a 4-point scale comprising content, organization, expression and mechanical accuracy which went for 30, 30, 20 and 20 marks respectively.

“It should also be placed on record that all the 20 shortlisted candidates did not score less than 70 marks out of the obtainable score of 100.”

The organisation praised all the participants in the maiden contest, urging them to take the outcome of the contest in stride and improve on their efforts to achieve bigger academic feats.

The statement also listed the names of the 20 shortlisted contestants as including the following; David Arowosafe; Ahmed Aminullahi; Ashaolu David Taiwo; Abdulhameed Tope Abdulrasheed; Abdul Pelumi Ganiyu; Anifaoloja Oluwapelumi Emmanuel; Salaudeen Zulqarnain Adeshina; Alamu Busola Florence; Oluwadamilola Akintewe; and Oyewopo Ibrahim Gboyega.

Similarly, TIN reminded participants that the final stage of the competition will see shortlisted candidates orally defending their entries before a four-man panel, an exercise that is part of the grading system for selecting the winners. It charged them to avoid plagiarism and other acts of malpractice while reiterating its commitment to conducting a fair and thorough contest.
