No fewer than three people were killed in a cult-related fight during a birthday party at Odoba Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday night.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that a quarrel had broken out during a birthday party organized by one of the youths in Odoba community.
The eyewitness from the Odoba commmunity who did not want to be mentioned explained that young man who came from Obu Otukpa, a neighbouring community and attended the party was hacked down and died during the quarrel.
The death of the young man was said to have caused a reprisal from the man’s community which led to the death of two others from the Odoba community.
One of the two youths killed in Odoba, according to the eyewitness was expected to bury his father this week.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ogbadibo local government, Prince Samuel Onu, said that it was a cult-related issue and that the Divisional Police Officer, Otukpa was aware of the report.
Onu said: “it has nothing to do with the communal crisis, it was a clash between rival groups.
“The incident happened at a party last night (Saturday night) and we have directed that the corpses be buried immediately.
But Police Public Relations Officer of Benue Command, DSP, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to be briefed about the incident.
