The Power of Decision Making: An author’s attempt to help her generation

Published by

Recently, friends, well-wishers and mentors of Victoria Umaru, as well as scholars, gathered in Ibadan, Oyo State, to launch her book — The Power of Decision Making.

The book, which Ms Umaru describes as a “fool-proof, no-nonsense guide to deciding your future with no regrets”, is a 154-page well written and easily read and understood work that centres on practical ways to make firm decisions as and when due and avoid procrastination. With the rising rate of moral decadence and indecision, which are actually decisions in themselves, the author said she aims to use the book to help her generation to develop the habit of taking firm, timely and decisive decisions.

Accurate use of words and punctuations set the book apart, Enoch Durotoye, Pastor, Wisdom Christian Centre, Ibadan, agrees. While reviewing the book, he described the young lawyer as a good writer who simplifies complex issues for ease of understanding, adding that the book is simple and could be understood by any reader.

“In this book, Barrister Umaru combines both the art and science of decision making. The difference between a good writer and a great writer is that one complicates a simple subject while the other simplifies a complex subject. She makes decision making a no-brainer in this book.

“And for those who see decision making as an arduous task, never worry as there is a practical guide to decision making in this book. It is a ‘must read’ for anyone who wants to get it right on all levels of life. Thanks, Barrister Umaru, for releasing this brainchild to our generation,” Durotoye, who doubles as the author’s pastor, said.

For Dr Alex Yusuf, who the author speaks glowingly of, the book is fact-filled. It “is a powerful, practical and academic fact with elements of science and art, put together by a natural inbuilt writer. It has always been her inspiration to write even as a primary school pupil.  I am proud of what she has achieved after going through this excellent work.

“The sustainability of an organization, of course, depends majorly on the quality of decision making. This book will be found worthy not only to individuals, government and business organizations but to both secondary and tertiary institutions. I strongly recommend it”.
