A teenager, Promise Chidera, on Friday appeared in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja for allegedly stealing fruits from his neighbour’s shop.

The police charged Chidera, 19, who resides in Angwa Cement village, Abuja with joint act and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, told the court that the complainant, Kabiru Ibrahim of the same address, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police station on June 27.

Ijeoma said that on June 26 at about 10. 30 p.m., the defendant and one other, at large, broke into the complainant’s shop where he sells fruit without his consent.

She alleged that the defendant stole an orange and a pineapple and ran away.

Ijeoma said that the complainant claimed he saw the defendant.

She said that during police investigation the defendant confessed that he and a friend called ”JJ”, broke into the shop to steal fruits.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

After the charge was read to Chidera, he pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, released the defendant on bail to a pastor or a district head.

Maiwada ordered that the surety must present valid means of identification.

He adjourned the case until July 30 for hearing.
