Teachings in churches adding to Nigeria’s challenges —Ogungboye

The minister-in-charge of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Liberty Centre, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prophet Felix Ogungboye, has said the country is facing a myriad of challenges due to the manner of teachings people are listening to in churches.

He noted that most churches and clerics now preach about prosperity and good things of life, but jettison the fundamental things which are the gospel of Jesus Christ and walking in the way of Lord.

Ogungboye spoke with Tribune Church News last Thursday on the sidelines of the 16th edition of the “100 Hours Prayer Battalion” programme of the church in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

He revealed that God has used him in the last 16 years of the programme to deliver people from bondage, end barrenness, restore health as well as intercession for the nation.

According to him, churches should stop concentrating on getting larger congregation and begin to place priority on winning souls for the kingdom of God and deepening the teachings of the gospel.

He identified seeing the work of God as a means of survival as one of the challenges facing the religious settings in the country, stressing that “the gospel of God must not be seen as alternative means of survival.

“We are having many challenges in this country today because our pastors now preach prosperity rather than how people will work and be in heaven with our God and until we turn back to things of the heaven, our problems will continue.

“These people you see in positions of authorities or leadership always go to churches or mosques, but don’t hear the right and needed words to change their ways of life.

“We always celebrate population in our places of worship rather than people who love God and work in His ways. There is joy in heaven for winning souls for God,” he said.

Ogungboye also advised government at all levels to eschew any form of nepotism and tribalism in their dealings, saying “these things are killing our country.”
