TASUED offers best graduating student automatic employment

AUTHORITIES of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, have offered Miss Ogunkomaya Funmilayo automatic employment for emerging the best graduating student of the institution in the 2015/2016 academic session.

This was disclosed by the institution’s vice chancellor, Professor Oluyemisi Obilade, during the 8th convocation ceremony of the university, held at the main auditorium of the university on Monday.

She noted that Ogunkomaya won the coveted university prize and seven others, as the best graduating student from the College of Science and Information Technology.

Obilade said that the overall student would be an asset to the university, hence the decision to engage her services in the university system.

In her address at the ceremony, Professor Obilade disclosed that a total of 1,586 graduated under the full-time degree programme in the academic year, while 567 graduated in the part-time programme for the 2014/2015 session; 22 Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and 86 masters degree graduands.

She added that the university had remained a reference point in the country considering the number of graduates churned out in the education discipline, which is higher than any other conventional universities.

Obilade enjoined well-meaning Nigerians to support the institution in ensuring the attainment of its lofty ideals.

“No university can boast of overseeing or mentoring TASUED because we are better than anyone else in what we do,” she noted.

The pro-chancellor of the institution, Professor Olufemi Bamiro, in his address commended the Ogun State government for its support towards the university.

Bamiro noted that public universities in Nigeria were confronted with two major challenges – fund and unionism.

He called on government to look into the area of tuition fees as the highest source of internally generated revenue for any university, reiterating that government could not reasonably fund education.

The pro-chancellor also noted that staff unionism and the way government handles it had done damage to the university system through the unstable academic calendar.

The Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, admonished the graduands to demonstrate the virtues and values inculcated in them in their daily dealings.

The ceremony witnessed the conferment of honorary degrees on two distinguished Nigerians, Dr Olusegun Aina and, posthumously, the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh.
