Taraba killings scare residents, as attacks persist

Published by

The continuous killings in the southern zone of Taraba State have sparked fear into residents of some zones of a possible escalation of the killings in their communities.

This is following the killing of a CRCN pastor and his wife on their farm near Mararaba in Donga local government area and two others, (a man and his son) near Tortsee along Takum Wukari road by gunmen.

Tribune Online gathered that Igba village at the outskirts of Suntai town along Bali Takum road and some villages near Jato on the same road were burnt Tuesday night by suspected militia men.

Reacting to the development, Chief of Tiv in Bali local government area of Taraba, Zaki David Gbaa who condemned the unprovoked attacks on some Tiv communities in the local government, called on security agencies to fish out the attackers.

A resident of Tortsee in Takum local government where two people were killed Tuesday night, Mr Tersoo Iorliam lamented that the killings were too much, adding that people are now living in fear.

“In parts of Bali, Donga and Takum, people are living in fear. We can’t go to our farms and even at home people are not safe.

“These attacks and killings are only bringing the state backwards and those concerned should act fast so that it would not escalate to other zones of the state.” he lamented.

Caretaker Chairman of Bali local government, Hon. Musa Mahmud who confirmed the attack on Tiv villages at Jato and Igba village said he had directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the local government to arrest the situation.

Meanwhile, Taraba state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. David Misal told our correspondent that he was yet to be brief on the two incidents.
