Tambuwal commends Army for repelling attack from ISWAP on base in Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has commended troops of the Nigerian Army for successful repelling attack from ISWAP on the military base in Sabon Birni local government area of the state.

In a press statement personally signed by the governor and made available to newsmen, the governor described the response from the military and other security agencies in the area as an act of gallantry.

He, however, said the act of bravery displayed by the security agencies reinforce the commitment of the state government in ensuring lasting peace not only in Sabon-Birni but across the entire state.

According to the statement, “The repulsion, by the Nigerian Army, of a recent attack by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on some military formations in Sabon Birni axis of our state is a valorous outing by all the security operatives in the general area.

“This brave act reinforces our ceaseless commitment, as a state government, to the quest for peace and peaceful coexistence. It also further strengthen our resolve at ensuring that all the security outfits on the call of duty in our state continue to work in harmony and have synergy.

“We, at once, deplore the incursion of ISWAP into our beloved state as despicable, demonic and destructive act that must not be allowed to stand or pass.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Sokoto, we applaud the military for steadfastness and doggedness in trying to halt this menace of insurgency that has for sometime now been the bane of our dear country.

“We stand firm in support of the entire security apparatus in the country for their patriotic zeal and consistent efforts to rout the perpetrators of this dastardly acts across the nation.

“As we pray for more victories for our gallant soldiers, we are convinced that in no distant future the nation shall overcome this challenge,” he added.
