Tackling exam malpractice

Published by

Examination malpractice refers to any deliberate act of wrongdoing that is contrary to the rules of examinations.

It denotes a situation in which candidates are given undue advantages before, during or after an examination, with a view to making  good grades.

Examination malpractice harms our society. The causes of exam mal-practice include parental failure. It is part of parents’ duties to train their children to be self-dependent.

Another reason is our faulty education system. It has been ruined by businessmen and women who are only interested in making money.

Also, some of the teachers in our schools are of low quality because of the owners’ inability to pay professional teachers.

Nevertheless, students’ attitudes also matter. Some students are too lazy to study. They have little time for studies: they attend parties and engage themselves in cult activities.

A nation that is backward academically because of its failure to produce students that can think independently will surely experience high unemployment rate.

Exam malpractice should be reduced if it cannot be completely eradicated. Our society should be moving forward, with great future leaders.

In conclusion, examination malpractice should be stamped out before it wreaks further havoc on the social, religious, economic and political life of Nigeria.
