All stakeholders, including the three tiers of government, agencies, parastatals and Nigerians in general have been urged to tackle insecurity and other vices ravaging the nation.
Addressing the nation at the 85th Tabieorar Festival celebration in Ogere, Ogun State, last Sunday, Primate of the Church of the Lord Worldwide, The Most Reverend (Dr) Rufus Okikiola Ositelu, said the security architecture of Nigeria was due for review.
According to him, “life is precious and sacred, and no one has the right to terminate it with impunity.”
He also noted that the pathetic state of Nigeria’s security is worrisome, adding that insurgency, shedding of innocent blood, wanton destruction of lives and property, banditry and kidnapping of people, including innocent school children should be stopped.
He added that the current agitation by some sections of the country to break away indicated loss of confidence and lack of trust in government.
Ositelu, therefore, urged federal and state governments, stakeholders and all Nigerians “to aggressively and decisively combat insecurity in the land. Perpetrators should be brought to book and prosecuted,” he added.
The Primate said this is the time to decentralise the police by introducing regional and community policing for more effective and efficient service.
He also said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) should be strengthened and empowered, and if necessary, merged together, in order to fight corruption more aggressively, while putting more stringent measures and policies in place.
Primate Ositelu also said the diversification of the economy should be implemented more vigorously, especially in the areas of agriculture and mineral resources, noting that the Federal Government can use the agricultural, mining and manufacturing and information technology sectors to reverse the trend of mass unemployment among the youth.
The church’s national choir and gospel artiste, Evangelist Oluwabukola Akinade, a.k.a Senwele Jesu, performed at the festival with the theme, “Divine Protection’’.
Very important personalities, who sent goodwill messages to the Church, commending her positive impact on the nation in the last 85 years, included the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
