Suspected land grabbers in court, remanded in prison

Two men, Mathew Yusuf Ogo (58) and Tajudeen Lasisi (52), who were arraigned in court for an alleged shady deal of land grabbing, have been remanded in prison after inability to fulfil bail conditions.

The accused persons had appeared at the Oyo State Magistrate Court, Erunmu on a six-count charge.

In the charge sheet with number MRN/19c/2021, count one read: “that you Mathew Yusuf Ogo male, Tajudeen Lasisi male and others at large sometime in the year 2016 till date at Elerumoke Village in Egbeda Local Government, via Ibadan in this Magistrate district, did conspire together to commit an offence with malicious damage, fraudulent act, a threat to life, forcible entry and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 & 517 of the criminal cap code of 38 vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.”

Count Two read: “that you Mathew Yusuf Ogo, Tajudeen Lasisi and others at large in the same dates and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully and without authority and being armed with dangerous weapons such as gun, cutlasses, charms, sticks, forcefully entered and held possession of a parcel of land which is in actual and peaceable possession of one Chief Alabi Olubunmi, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 81 of the criminal code cap 38 vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.”

In Count Three, it was read “that you Mathew Yusuf Ogo, Tajudeen Lasisi and others at large in same dates and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully and maliciously cause damage to corner piece and pillars erected in about 21 acres of land being in actual and peaceful possession of one Chief Alabi Olubunmi and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 451 of the criminal code cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.”

Count Four read further: “that you Mathew Yusuf Ogo, Tajudeen Lasisi and others at large on same dates and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did fraudulently and unlawfully sold some parcel of land being in possession of Chief Alabi Olubunmi to unsuspecting buyers in the false pretence of being the owner, known to you to be false, and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 418 and punishable under section 419 of the criminal code cap 38 vol. II Laws of Oyo state 2000.”

In Count Five, it was read “that you Mathew Yusuf Ogo, Tajudeen Lasisi and others at large in same date and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did without lawful authority used and threatened violence for the purpose of grabbing real property in possession of Chief Alabi Olubunmi for yourself or any other person and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 7 (1) of the Oyo State real property law 2016.”

The sixth count read: “that you Mathew Yusuf Ogo, Tajudeen Lasisi and others at large on the same dates in place aforementioned magisterial district did make entry into real property belonging to Chief Alabi Olubunmi with offensive weapons and fetish objects and cause violence and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 7(A)(1)&(B) of the Oyo State real property law 2016.”

After the charges were read to them, the defendants pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, S.H. Adebisi, granted them bail of N300,000, with surety for each of them in like sum.

However, they could not fulfil their bail conditions, which resulted in their being remanded in Agodi prison.

The case was adjourned till November 18 for further hearing.
