Suspected herdsmen kill village head, two others in Taraba

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani, on Tuesday night, killed the (Mai-Angwan Tiv), in Kundi district, Zaki Terzungwe Anjua and two others in a night attack in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The deceased who had just returned from IDPs camp in Bali following the directive of Governor Darius Ishaku that all displaced persons in the area should be allowed unhindered access to their homes and farmlands were killed at about 10:20 pm.

It was gathered that the attackers have taken the man’s farmland and decided to kill him to avert trouble, should the man report them to the governor.

An eyewitness who escaped the attack told our correspondent on the phone that the attackers invaded their compound at about 10:20 pm and shot his father (the Maiangwa), before cutting him and two others with cutlasses.

The attack came barely 48 hours after the Public Relations Officer of Miyetti Allah, Murtala Usman, informed journalists that the crisis between the Fulani and Tiv in Bali Local Government Area had been resolved.

“Leaders of both tribes have met, following the directives of Governor Darius Ishaku that the crisis should stop and all displaced persons should return home.

“The Council Chairman, Prince Musa Mahmud has implemented the Governor’s directive and the issue has been resolved,” he said.

Taraba State Public Relations Officer DSP. David Misal could not pick calls or reply to text messages sent to his phone as at the time of filing this report.
