The police of Ekiti State have arrested one Akirun Peter who was planning with others to attack the new police station in Iyin-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti and to kill the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the station.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Sunday Abutu while parading suspected criminals at the command’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital said the suspect was also planning to kidnap an unnamed police officer in the station and asked N5 million ransom from the family.
Abutu noted that on 3rd March 2021, the surveillance team of the command suspected his movement and when accosted he could not give satisfactory explanations on his mission in the state.

According to the PPRO, “It was discovered that the suspect has a recorded voice conversation with someone where they both conspired to attack New Iyin Police Station, kill the DPO and kidnap an Officer for a ransom of Five Million Naira(N5,000,000:00) to be used to purchase a Mercedes Benz Car.
“Further findings revealed that the suspect intended to launch an attack on Ikorodu Police Station, Lagos State for the rescue of one Alhaji who was arrested and detained in the cell. It was also discovered that the suspect belongs to one of the notorious gangs of kidnappers terrorising innocent members of the public in Ekiti State.”
Abutu noted that five other suspects were arrested in connection with robbery incidents at a popular restaurant in Ido-Ekiti in 2019.
He said all the suspects would soon be charged to court for prosecution after completion of investigations.
