Support my govt in fight against banditry, Matawalle pleads with NUJ

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has pleaded with the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) correspondents chapel to support his government in the fight against banditry.

This was even as he wishes the newly elected executives under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr Sani Haruna Dutsin-Ma, and the Secretary, Mr Ibrahim Ahmad Gada, a successful tenure and God’s guidance.

In a statement issued by the Director-General Media and Communication, Yusuf Idris Gusau, on Monday, said a new and better page had been opened with the Correspondents Chapel.

According to him, this was necessary for the promotion of peace and development.

He assured that his government will continue to continue to provide an enabling working environment for positive media practice.

The governor also tasked them to support his administration in the fight against banditry and others for the return of peace in the state.

Matawalle further noted that having known the qualities of Sani Haruna Dutsin-Ma, he holds the belief that the ethics of the journalism profession will be the guiding principles of all the correspondents in their reportage.

Also, he charged the new leadership of the chapel to intensify efforts in the fight against fake news and armchair journalism who only beam their focus on disunity and hatred in the country.

He observed that a fair and accurate report is the only thing that can sustain democracy and bring meaningful development in any state or nation and that journalists are responsible for that.
