The Niger Delta Progressives Youth (NDPY) in Ondo State has warned political jobbers against distracting and intimidating the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The warning is coming on the heels of the call by some politicians from the area who lamented over the state of development in the coastal area despite the huge oil resource generated from the area while the representative on the board of NDDC felt unconcerned.
However, speaking during a press conference in Akure, the Chairman of the NDPY, Stanley Atili, expressed dismay at the allegation levelled against Tunji Ojo, saying it was designed to get the attention of the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee of NDDC.
Atili who said that the political jobbers resorted to blackmail to attract the attention of the lawmaker, queried them over the role played by the lawmaker representing the Ilaje /Ese Odo federal constituency on the development of the area.
He noted that the impact of past lawmakers and other leaders on the board of NDDC had not been felt by the people of the coastal community, saying the Niger Delta Region, especially Ondo State has not for once enjoyed any benefits before the coming of Hon. Tunji Ojo.
He described Tunji-Ojo as a man with a good heart who has been developing the state rapidly since he assumed the position of House Of Representatives committee chairman on NDDC saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.
He said “This man is not only advocating for the good people of the oil-producing areas but also fighting for the interest of the areas in a due course
Since the appointment of Hon. Tunji-Ojo as the Chairman House Committee on NDDC, he has shown to the people that he has uncontrollable passion for the development of oil-producing areas.
He has shown the people of the state and especially the Niger Delta area of Ondo state, through his involvement and activity, that he can represent us well and proved to the people that he’s a true patriot and advocacy of the Niger Delta Region and we see him as such.
He warned those behind the unrecognized group to deposit from distracting the Tunji-Ojo from repositioning of the commission in order to bring back the fair-share of Ondo state among the Niger Delta states.
He described the recent allegations by a political group from the coastal region of Ondo state that the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee of NDDC has not contributed to the development of the area since he assumed as the chairman of the Committee as a fallacy, baseless and lack of merit.
Atili challenged them to produce tenable evidence before the public that Tunji -Ojo and should desist from blackmail, saying the lawmakers have other responsibilities to his immediate constituency that elected him.
“They should desist from this cheap blackmail and should allow BTO to concentrate. They should allow him to discharge his constitutional rights and moral responsibilities, knowing full well that Ondo State has been a short change at all levels of NDDC’s activities”.
He advised Hon. Tunji-Ojo to be weary of these political jobbers and be more vigilant, productive and tactical in discharging the responsibility bestowed on him and as well advised him to maintain the good name he has built for years and keep his integrity.
