Stampede at Delta police headquarters as fire guts control room

There was a mild stampede at the Delta State police command headquarters in Asaba, on Thursday, following a fire incident at its control room.

Tribune Online gathered that it took the timely intervention of the state fire service to save the situation even as communications gadgets at a small portion of the control room were gutted.

The cause of the inferno was not immediately ascertained but the state police commissioner, Ari Mohammed Ali confirmed it may not be unconnected with an electrical spark which occurred at about 2.35 pm.

Security in and around the headquarters along the busy Okpanam road had remained tight in recent times following the spate of attacks on police formations especially in the southeast zone of the country.
