St Anne’s School excels with medals at international competition

Two students of the St. Anne’s School, Molete, Ibadan, has shone at the 2021 Queen’s International Commonwealth Competition, held last year, where Mariam Lawal , a final year student of the school and her colleague Deborah  Olatunji bagged bronze and silver awards  respectively at the final rounds of the competition which involved competitors from different countries.

As a result of their brilliant performance at the international competition, the Educational Advanced Centre (EAC), Ibadan, one of the first private Cambridge Advanced Level Education training and examination centres in Nigeria, had offered the two awardees a full scholarship for an Advanced Level education.

Sharing experiences in the completion, Mariam  Lawal and  Deborah  Olatunji attributed their success to the quality of education  being offered by their teachers coupled with the conducive learning environment made available by the school management.

Sharing their experiences, the duo awardees attributed the success to their teachers in the school, whom they acknowledged as their locos parentis and academically sound in their subject fields and teaching them with experiences that make learning stress-free for the students in the school.

They asserted that “at St. Anne’s School, teaching and learning does not end until the slow learners among us have comprehended the topic. This, among other privileges, is what we enjoy in the school which enhances our academic performance.”

They also acknowledged the intervention of the school’s old students association, popularly called Seminary-St Anne’s School Old Girls Association, (SSASOGA) in terms of academic and infrastructure development in the school as well as its impact on the quality of education being offered to students.

The association, according to them, has made an indelible impression on the students of the school and have left a good legacy for others to emulate.

Speaking further about the competition, Mariam  Lawal  stated that it was the old students association that introduced them to the International Essay Competition which is annually organised by the office of the  Queen of England.

She said: “The association facilitated and coordinated the whole activities of the programme to the final level with keen assistance from our teachers and the school principal.

“The 2021 edition of the competition had its topic on coronavirus and was submitted online. The two of us  registered for the competition and  at the  end of the exercise,  I won a Bronze  medal,  while my colleague , Deborah Olatunji  got the silver award.

“I can boldly say that St Anne’s School, though a public school in Oyo State, give us a quality academic and moral education.”

They thanked the management of the Educational Advancement Centre for the scholarship it offered them in recognition of their brilliant performance in the international competition.

One of the parents of the awardees, Mr  Oluwagbemiga  Olatunji  confirmed the quality of education and moral standard being maintained at  St. Anne’s School,  Ibadan, ditto other public secondary schools in the state.

He noted that “if every successive government in country, both the federal and state levels will review their commitments to the development of the public school education in terms of infrastructure, human and capital development, as well as functional curriculum that can promote disciplined students and sound education, it will go a long way to resuscitate the collapsing public school system, where most of the good leaders in this nation passed through.”

While commending the old students association of St Anne’s School for its contributions towards the development of the school, he noted that “parents are also major stakeholders in the education sector whose active participation should not be lacking in the school management system.”

He added that parents had a lot of work to do to in the academic processes of their children to ensure that they are well-endowed morally and academically

He also encouraged the state governments in the country to continue to give the public schools’ development a priority.
