Sowore’s fresh arraignment over alleged cybercrime stalled

Published by

The arraignment of a 2023 Presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore on Cybercrime charges was, on Wednesday stalled at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The Federal Government filed a three-count charge against Sowore, who is also the founder of Sahara Reporters, following complaints by a businessman, Ned Nwoko.

Although Sowore was present in court to take his plea, the Sahara Reporters, an online medium, charged along with him was not in court and not represented by a lawyer.

Counsel to the Federal Government, Mr Emmanuel Inegbenoise told the court that Sahara Reporters as 2nd defendant has not been served with a copy of the charges as required by law and sought for a short adjournment to enable him perfect service of the charges on the organisation.

Counsel to Sowore, Tope Temokin did not object to the application for adjournment.

In a short ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite billed to undertake the trial granted adjournment request and fixed April 25 for the arraignment and ordered the federal government to ensure service of the charges on the 2nd defendant before the adjourned date.
