IT’S worthy of note that some suspects when arrested by security operatives in Nigeria are in possession of charms and juju. Some armed robbers, drug traffickers, smugglers, abductors etc have been found to be carrying juju when they were apprehended. Magical powers were invoked into these charms and juju by witches and sorcerers; these juju are meant to assist suspects in committing crimes.
Perhaps, this is rationale for ‘offences relating to witchcraft, charm and juju’ in Criminal Code Cap C38 laws of the federation 2004; which was made by Federal Government of Nigeria. The offence is punishable with two or five years prison sentence.
Also, sections 210 and 213 of Criminal Code Law of Oyo State- Cap 38 Law of Oyo State: year 2000, condemn being a witch and carrying charm and juju. Some of remaining states in south-west Nigeria have Law in this regard in their criminal codes. In addition to foregoing penal code act: Cap 54 Laws of the Federation 2004 frown at, condemn and prohibit possession by witchcraft, possession of charm and juju. Accused, if convicted, can be thrown into jail for 2 or five years.
Therefore there’s need for all Nigerians and aliens in the country to report all witches and wizards that are custodians of juju to relevant security agencies.
