SON vows to rid Onitsha, Nnewi of substandard products through stakeholders inputs

The Anambra state coordinator of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Engineer Olalekan Omoniyi, has vow that with the adequate support and collaboration of all concern stakeholders in Anambra, especially in Onitsha and Nnewi, the organisation will not rest on its oars in eradicating the state of substandard products.

Omoniyi, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen at a one-day Stakeholders Collaboration Seminar as a tool for zero substandard products with the Theme; Promoting Made In Nigeria Products, held yesterday in Awka, the Anambra state capital.

According to him, the organisation is enforcing compliance, through SONCAP and other logos on products to let customers know the difference between substandard and counterfeit products and the original while shopping.

He said as patriotic citizens, all Nigerians are compelled to collaborate with SON to stamp out substandard products from the society.

Our responsibilities is not only to test products but also to educate the public about the hazard/adverse effect of fake or substandard goods of their health, particularly, he added.

He cautioned residents in the state against endangering themselves and family by patronising substandard products in the market.

He noted that the organization is in a good working relationship with the National Agency For Drug and Control NAFDAC, Customs Service in the state to ensure total rid of fake goods.

In his brief remark, the South East regional coordinator of the organization, Engr. Samson Ukpe, encouraged consumers to always patronized made in Nigeria Products that are tested and certified by SON.

Some of the participants Mr Nnamdi Odey, a trader in Nnewi and Ms Amaka from Onitsha, while urging the organisation to extend the awareness campaign to rural areas, said a lot of Innocent people have been killed, maimed as a result of the use of these fake products that are in circulation.

They promise to collaborate as stakeholders to stamp out substandard goods in the state through “When you see something, say something policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
