My son urinates blood

Published by

My 12-year-old son complained to me that his urine is bloody and that he feels pain when urinating. Although he has not had sex with any woman before, he confessed that he has been following his friends to swim in a nearby stream. Kindly let me know the cause of his problem and the solution.

Your son has most likely contracted a water borne disease called Schistosomiasis from the polluted water where he goes for swimming with his friends. He will need to have a sample of his urine tested in a Laboratory to confirm this before collecting a prescription from his doctor for the appropriate treatment. In addition, it will be nice if you can bring the existence of this kind of stream to the notice of your Health Authorities so that the water can be fumigated or totally drained to avoid the spread of the disease.
