Soludo empowers 5000 Anambra youths with 2bn

The Anambra State Government has provided seed funds totalling two billion nairas to empower five thousand beneficiaries in the pilot phase of the “One Youth, Two Skills” program.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo presented the cheques to the beneficiaries during the graduation and business financing ceremony for the first batch of participants at the Anambra International Convention Centre in Awka on Friday.

In his address, Governor Soludo clarified that these beneficiaries have formed themselves into cooperatives. Special funding has been allocated through the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA) for those who wish to expand their enterprises, enabling them to access grants of up to five million naira.

The Governor emphasised that the grant provided to each beneficiary should be sufficient to purchase the necessary equipment to start their ventures. He encouraged them to visit their respective local government offices next week to collect their ready-to-distribute cheques.

Governor Soludo underscored the importance of human capital as Anambra’s greatest resource. He referred to the youth as the bridge to the future and expressed his administration’s commitment to fostering sustainable empowerment.

Patrick Agha-Mba, the Commissioner for Youth Development, revealed that the second phase of the program is set to begin soon. He highlighted this initiative as a significant step towards elevating the youth to the next level, projecting that within the next two years, these beneficiaries will have transitioned into employers of labor.

Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe, Deputy Director of UNIZIK Business School, explained that the comprehensive curriculum is designed to enhance the participants’ skills in various disciplines essential for successful entrepreneurship and business management. It includes courses on personal development skills and critical thinking, among others.
