Sokoto stormwater project: Our materials have been stolen, Contractor cries out

The contractor firm handling the Mabera stormwater project in Sokoto has decried the theft of their working materials by the youth in the areas affected by the contract.

Representative of the contracting firm in the state, Mr Frank Simeon Koshihula stated this during an inspection visit by the team from Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Programme.

Frank added that about 70 per cent of the total 100 per cent of their construction materials were stolen by the youth in the areas.

He, however, assured the people of the state of prompt completion of the project before the start of heavy downpour in the state.

Speaking earlier, the program coordinator NEWMAP Alhaji Ibrahim Umar said he is satisfied with the level of work so far stressing that the work has reached more than 50 per cent.

Ibrahim Umar said the essence of the inspection is as a result of the rainy season is drawing nearer noting that the contracting firm has so far tackled flood-prone areas.

The NEWMAP Project Coordinator directed the contractor to backfill the completed drainages and evacuated all the debris left especially on the roadside.

Areas visited by the NEWMAP team include Mabera, Rijiyar Shehu, Eastern bypass and Old Airport area of the town.
